Many of today’s rising young superstars have gone through WWE tryouts.
Several days of scouting where independent circuit stars show the officials of the top company what they’re capable of. Some are even selected despite having no wrestling background: this was the case for Trick Williams. In discussions with Denise Salcedo, the former United States Champion revisited his tryouts in 2018 and 2020.
He states :
“WWE reached out to me and said: “Hey, if you’re interested, we’d like to invite you to come in for a tryout.” I went to the tryout and they told me: “Listen, you’re athletic, charismatic, you know how to speak, but you’ve never wrestled; you need to learn how to wrestle if you want to stay here.” So I did what was necessary to become a superstar.
“I trained at CZW. The COVID-19 pandemic hit, then I ended up leaving that place and trained at Knox Pro in Los Angeles. And from there, I went to my second tryout and signed a contract. It has been quite a journey.”
And WWE was right to back him: Trick Williams is one of the biggest attractions on SmackDown today.
