Marc Mercier, One of France’s Most Prominent Wrestling Figures, Dies

September 8, 2026

French professional wrestling today loses one of the sport’s most influential figures in its history.

We learn today that Marc Mercier has died at the age of 68. The news was announced by his son, Hugo, on his father’s Facebook page. His son states that Marc Mercier “fought like no one else until the very last second, never complaining, with that strength, that rage and that steel will that accompanied him throughout his life.”

A former wrestler, he also served as president of the French Professional Wrestling Federation. In 2024, he announced his departure from the world of wrestling. Unfortunately, in May, Marc Mercier announced that he had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

He passed away tonight at the age of 68, “peacefully in his sleep.”
