About ten months ago, John Cena handed the baton to the Ring General.
But since Gunther’s feat at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025, his WWE journey hasn’t been the one fans hoped for. With no world title around his waist, the former Intercontinental Champion remains stuck on SmackDown amid clashes with Finn Balor and… Danhausen. Appearing on the Busted Open podcast, Cena weighed in on Gunther’s latest on-screen opponent. And the Champ doesn’t seem any more optimistic than the fans.
He states :
I know there are people saying, “Man, they’re wasting Gunther’s talent.” Maybe that’s true for now… […] I don’t take part in those meetings where they stare at the whiteboard and connect the dots. Perhaps they’re simply giving him some time off. Perhaps they’re keeping him off TV. I don’t know.
