“I’m lucky to be alive today,” those were the words with which wrestler Sunil Singh of the Bollywood Boyz revealed that he had come dangerously close to death during a match a few days earlier.
The former WWE performer disclosed that he suffered a pneumothorax during a wrestling match held last Saturday. In the emergency room, the doctor told him he had been very lucky to still be alive.
Sunil Singh’s message on social media:
“I’m lucky to be alive today. Saturday night was one of the scariest experiences of my life.”
“As I was in the ring performing a move I’ve done for years, X-rays revealed that I had suffered a pneumothorax as a result of the impact. The doctor told me: “You are very lucky to be alive. Angels were watching over you.”
Those words still echo in my head. I was breathless and struggled to breathe, not knowing what was happening or how serious it was. When the match ended and I went backstage, I could hardly walk and I still had trouble breathing.
For a moment, I felt as if I were staring death in the face. I have spent decades doing what I love, climbing into this ring and giving it my all. I never would have imagined that a move I had performed countless times could lead to something so terrifying. I did not want to die, and the only thought crossing my mind was how I would take my son to hockey and step onto the ice with him.
I am so grateful to be here. I would like to thank everyone at Pure Power Wrestling, the locker rooms, and especially my brother, who made sure the medical team arrived in time. I will have follow-up appointments, and I am taking things one day at a time.
These past five years, after WWE, have been among the most rewarding and intense of my life. I don’t want all that effort to go to waste. My brother and I have worked hard to rebuild ourselves. Thank you all for your support and your love.
