Marc Mercier, One of France’s Top Wrestling Stars, Dies

September 8, 2026

French professional wrestling loses today one of the most important figures in its history.

We have learned today that Marc Mercier has died at the age of 68. The news was announced by his son, Hugo, on his father’s Facebook account. His son states that Marc Mercier “s’est battu comme personne jusqu’à la dernière seconde, sans jamais se plaindre, avec cette force, cette rage et ce mental d’acier qui l’ont accompagné toute sa vie.”

As a former wrestler, he also served as president of the French Federation of Professional Wrestling. In 2024, he announced that he was leaving the world of wrestling. Unfortunately, in May, Marc Mercier announced that he had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

He passed away tonight at the age of 68.

The entire Catch-Newz team extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Marc Mercier.
