Rey Mysterio Delays Retirement for His Daughter

September 13, 2026

The topic of Rey Mysterio’s retirement has been in the spotlight for several years now.

Rey Mysterio himself had hinted at an imminent retirement, but he put the project on hold with the debut of his son Dominik Mysterio. Plans for a final match, a father-versus-son confrontation, were in place, yet the ultimate showdown has not occurred yet.

This week, Rey Mysterio sat down for an interview with The Sun and confirms that ever since his daughter Aalyah began training as a wrestler, he would love to see a father-son-and-daughter bout. His statement:

“My daughter is training right now… Well, in the sense it’s something completely different for me. I would really love to be able to share the ring with both of them. Why not? I don’t think it’s ever been done in history, so being able to share the ring with my daughter and my son would be something exceptional. It’s a wish or a very personal dream for me.”

As noted by Catch-Newz, Aalyah Mysterio began full-time training as a wrestler a few months ago at WWE’s Performance Center in Florida. She made the choice to finish her medical studies and then explore this family possibility in the world of wrestling.

The journey has just begun for Aalyah, but Rey Mysterio has already been blown away by how quickly his daughter is learning. The same goes for Dominik, who rapidly made his way onto the main roster.

A new dream that Rey Mysterio aims to fulfill before his retirement!

Why the final Rey vs. Dominik match did not take place

In the same interview, Rey Mysterio explains that the final match against Dominik never happened because everything happened too quickly. He had expected it to take a bit more time.

Nevertheless, he believes it would be possible to reopen that door at any moment if the opportunity arises to pass the torch to his son:

“We may have thought it was the end, but the story is still there. It’s very easy to knock at that door again and reopen it. So yes, it was my initial idea that Dom would push me toward retirement the moment my son launched himself, but it happened so fast. His progress happened so quickly that I didn’t expect it to occur only 2 or 3 years after his debut in the industry. It’s crazy.”

There are several paths ahead for Rey Mysterio, who wants to savor the remaining moments with his family.
