Last night, after the clash between Roman Reigns’ faction and 946 on WWE RAW, Sami Zayn defended his Undisputed WWE Championship off-camera.
Thus, the fans who attended WWE RAW live from San Diego were able to witness a match pitting Sami Zayn against Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship. At the end of the bout, Cody Rhodes managed to deliver his Cross Rhodes on the champion… but the referee had been knocked down a few moments earlier.
As the referee began to rise, Sami Zayn took advantage to recover his belt and strike his evening’s opponent with it before attempting the pin. It is then that the referee decided to disqualify Sami Zayn. Victory by pinfall or defeat by disqualification, the result is practically the same for the champion: Sami Zayn retains his title.
