Santos Escobar’s First Match Since Leaving WWE

September 28, 2026

Santos Escobar, now known as Romeo Malverde, wrestled his first match since leaving WWE in March 2026.

As you know, Escobar had been released by WWE after signing a new contract just a few months earlier. Also, he had been on the injured list since March due to a triceps injury.

He became a free agent in July 2026, but it was only today that he took his first match. One can imagine that this was due to his rehabilitation for his triceps and not due to a lack of bookings. On September 27, 2026, Romeo Malverde stepped into the ring at the 5th International Lucha Libre Festival in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

He teamed up with Blue Demon Jr to face Magno and Steven Juarez, a debut match that he won.

Now that he is officially ready to return to competition, it remains to be seen whether a promotion signs him.
