The Rock Responds to Critics After Tupac Tribute

October 4, 2026

Pac’s death sparked a strong reaction this week, including from The Rock.

Despite his affiliation with WWE and his actions within the company, The Rock did not hesitate to mention AEW and speak positively about the promotion. The message surprised more than one, and there were rumors that his message had been poorly received by some WWE executives.

Today, The Rock weighed in on the topic in an Instagram post, stating that there is no competition or rivalry in this story; it’s a matter of humanity:

“Humanity matters to me. I was born into this business and I’ve seen it all, but when one of our own passes away, I don’t see ‘our competition’ and I don’t concern myself with it. I care about the wrestlers and the impact this has on them. I’ve been through it. For me, humanity comes first.”

The message is clear to The Rock that this is a matter of respect for the person and not about protecting or prioritizing his own company or the rival company.

The Rock is moreover one of the few WWE superstars who mentioned the terms AEW or Tony Khan in his remarks about Pac. It should not be forgotten that The Rock is a mega star outside of wrestling in 2026, so is he above repercussions if he breaks the unwritten rules? Perhaps yes, but it gives him the chance to publish a classy tribute to Pac.
